Programmer: What is the difference between a .bit file and a .jed file?

The .jed and .bit files are programming files generated using ispLEVER or Diamond software.

The .bit file is used to program volatile devices such as the SRAM of FPGA/CPLDs.
The .jed file is used to program non-volatile devices such as the internal flash of FPGA/CPLDs.
