W65C02RTL: 8-Bit 65xx Microprocessor

WDC LogoThe W65C02RTL Soft Core from The Western Design Center is a general purpose 8-bit Microprocessor Core. The core was designed to emulate the available W65C02C GDSII Hard Core. This characteristic makes the soft core ideal in FPGA prototyping systems for ASIC designs that will use the hard core, while remaining flexible for strictly FPGA designs. The core is available with a serial interface for WDC’s development tools.

  • 16-bit address bus provides access to 65,536 bytes of memory space
  • 69 Instructions
  • 212 Operation Codes (OpCodes)
  • 16 Addressing Modes
  • Vector Pull (VPB) output indicates when interrupt vectors are being addressed
  • WAit-for-Interrupt (WAI) and SToP (STP) instructions reduce power consumption, decrease interrupt latency and enable synchronization with external events
  • Variable length instruction set enables smaller code optimization over fixed length instruction set processors. This results in low power as well
  • Hardware Breakpoint for on system debugging
  • UART configured for serial interface to development tools

Development Tools Interface

The soft core is available with a serial interface to WDC’s Development Tools. WDC offers numerous tools to streamline application development and debug. The suite of tools is completed with the Terbium Integregrated Development Environment (TIDE). TIDE can interface directly to your development hardware through its configurable TIDEPort.
