Network service providers are struggling to meet the demand of today's mobile-centric consumers, who expect identical quality of service anywhere. The 57-64 GHz band of spectrum, also known as 60 GHz, has already proved to be successful in wireless applications.   1. Unlicensed spectrum. Since the 60 GHz band is unlicensed, the industry can deliver wireless services without paying a hefty licensing fee to local regulators. This means that device manufacturers and operators can quickly and economically deploy innovative products and services to meet consumer demand.
  2. No congestion. Compared to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, 60 GHz is not congested. Wi-Fi signals will not interfere with the performance of 60 GHz devices. Even with growing number of devices, the directional nature of the antenna and high signal attenuation of the millimeter wave reduce the likelihood of signal interference at 60 GHz.
  3. Capacity. The 60 GHz spectrum has 7 GHz of bandwidth that offers the necessary capacity associated with the growing number of Internet-connected devices.
