Image Sensor Bridge

Image Sensor Interfacing

Adding an image sensor to the system - iCE40 UltraPlus enables the interface to a CMOS camera over Digital Video Port (DVP) and converting this image data to RGB format for further basic image processing.

Hardware Platform Available - This demo uses iCE40 UltraPlus MDP board taking advantage of the on board OVM7692 camera, which is a low voltage CMOS image sensor that provides the full functionality of a single-chip VGA camera and image processor in a small footprint package, to capture the image using iCE40 UltraPlus device.

Demonstration capability – The demo provided detects when an object having human skin color is in the field of view of the camera, ideally located roughly one to two feet away from the board. The UltraPlus takes this DVP interface (clock, vsync, hsync & 8-bit data) and converts it into 16-bit RGB format for basic image processing. Lighting conditions must be normal, without extreme shadows, brightness, or backlight.

Features

  • Provides ability to add image sensors to systems with processors with no image sensor interface
  • Supports image sensors running Digital Video Port (DVP) interface
  • Low power/cost and small size image sensor interface solution
  • Hardware platform available for development
