What does it mean when I have a part that is "dual-marked"?

The part number stamped on the top of some Lattice semiconductor parts is different from the part number listed in the data sheet. In fact, the one stamped on the part looks like a combination of 2 part numbers in the data sheet.

Lattice defines such a device as being "dual-marked". A dual-marked device represents a device capable of supporting two different performance specifications. Note that the performance specifications could be either Speed Grade, Operating Temperature (Industrial or Commercial) or both.

For the older device families, the speed grade of the commercial device is one speed grade higher than the associated industrial device. The faster commercial speed grade device also satisfies the slower speed grade industrial specifications. Using the MachXO640E device as an example, the part number stamped on the package will be LCMXO640E 4F256C-3I. This signifies the device is a -4 speed grade commercial device but it also meets the performance specifications of a -3 speed grade industrial device. You can find the information about dual-mark devices in the "Order Information" section or "Part Number Description" section of the corresponding data sheets.

For the newer device families, the speed at which the device operates under user condition is strictly determined by the FPGA design tool such as Diamond or Radiant. The dual-mark in this case indicates that the device operation temperature could support both Commercial (C) and Industrial (I). The dual-mark devices support the superset of operating temperature at I grade. Lattice has the option to ship both C and dual-mark devices to customers who orders commercial devices. However, Lattice will only ship either I device or dual-mark devices for customers who orders the Industrial grade device. In this case the device operating speed (speed grade) may very well be the same for both Commercial and Industrial devices depending on the customer use case condition.
