The Telecom Bus Interface (TBI) is an accepted industry standard that is commonly found in SONET/SDH systems. It is a parallel interface used for chip-to-chip communication on SONET line cards. In this application, the channelized Synchronous Payload Envelope (SPE) traffic from the framers is transmitted to and received from the SONET Digital Cross Connect through a 2.5Gbps SERDES interface provided by the Lattice ORSO device. The embedded core of the ORSO device offers a low-risk SONET backplane solution, which meets or exceeds most of the specifications of the SONET standard.
