MachXO Control Development Kit


The MachXO Control Development Kit is a platform for rapidly prototyping system control designs using MachXO PLDs. The kit features the MachXO LCMXO2280 device, Power Manager II ispPAC-POWR1014A, 2 Mbit SPI Flash and 1 Mbit SRAM memory, a temperature sensor, an expansion header for I2C and SPI interfaces, and several LEDs and user switches.

Using the preloaded control system-on-chip (Control SoC) design provided with the development kit, you can now test within minutes board control functions including fan speed control based on temperature monitoring, LCD control, complete power supply monitoring and reset distribution in conjunction with the Power Manager II POWR1014A and 8-bit LatticeMico8 microcontroller. You can then build your own designs using the free downloadable reference design source code, implementing these features in less than an hour. The board also features USB channels for JTAG programming and debugging from a host PC. A prototype area provides access to a variety of PIO banks of the MachXO PLD and the on-board I2C bus. The board can be controlled with a menu driven interface via terminal programs running on a host PC.

*** Special Note: The following demo applications are native to the ispLEVER software. While you can continue to use ispLEVER if you have it installed, ispLEVER Starter is no longer available for download. Lattice Diamond-Free has replaced ispLEVER Starter, and should be used for all new design work. We are currently working to update these demos to work native to the Lattice Diamond environment, and will post new versions of the demos as they are available. Until these new demos are available, you might try using the "ispLEVER project import" capability of Lattice Diamond. Depending on your needs, this may be a satisfactory interim solution.

  • Control SoC

This demo includes the RTL source and firmware for the pre-programmed demo provided with the MachXO Control Evaluation Board. It integrates several Lattice reference designs including the 8-bit Microcontroller - LatticeMico8 microcontroller, I2C controller, SPI Flash memory controller, SRAM controller, LCD controller, PWM fan controller and a UART peripheral for communication with board subsystems and a host PC connected with a USB cable.

  • Power Supply Fault Logging New!

Maximize system reliability by monitoring devices for marginal power supply failures. This demo continuously monitors the supply rails of the Control evaluation board. If a power supply failure occurs, the POWR1014A and XO2280 system will issue a diagnostic log to the on-board SPI memory that includes supply identity and level.

  • Voltage Monitoring Using Delta Sigma ADC New!

Monitor sensors and power rails for free by replacing discrete ADCs in your system. This demo implemements a Delta-Sigma Analog-to-Dgital Conversion (ADC) technique to monitor an analog voltage and convert it to a digital value with the XO2280.

  • Interface to CompactFlash  New!
CompactFlash memory continues to be commonly found in system control designs to provide simple plug memory. This demo showcases the LatticeMico8 microcontroller, CompactFlash memory controller, and a PWM-based digital-to-analog conversion to drive the audio jack of the Control evaluation board. A Hyperterminal interface allows you to load a Wave-format file onto the board and play it back using the audio jack output.
Diamond Software (Free License)
To modify a demo or create your own designs for the MachXO Control Evaluation Board download the Diamond Software. Access to design with the MachXO is included in the Diamond Free license, which you can request after you download and install the Diamond software.
