Low Power

Reducing static power has been an ongoing challenge for designers of consumer applications. For many battery powered applications such as smart phones, GPS devices, mobile computing and digital cameras, prolonged battery life is one of the most important requirements. Low power is also becoming important for many electronic appliances that are powered by wall sockets as designers seek to comply with the latest EnergyStar and EC Code of Conduct regulations.

Silicon process and design optimizations enable MachXO2 devices to be used in a broad range of low power applications. Utilizing a low power 65-nm process featuring embedded Flash technology, MachXO2 ZE devices deliver power as low as 19µW for 256LUTs.

MachXO2 devices have been designed with innovative power management features that allow you to meet the static and dynamic power requirements of your application.

Feature Benefit

Power Controller

  • Dynamically disable components such as bandgap, POR, oscillator, or PLLs
  • Accepts inputs from core logic or I2C port (external master can control power consumption)

I/O Bank Controller

  • Disable differential and referenced I/Os on a per bank basis

Power Guard

  • Selectively disable inputs
Dynamic Clock Enable
  • Dynamically disable primary clock net

PLL Output Clock Enable

  • Selectively disable PLL clock outputs

Power Calculator

The Power Calculator included in Lattice Diamond is a powerful tool that allows you to estimate the power consumption of a device. This tool offers an Estimation mode for "what-if" analysis, and enables designers to import NCD design files to accurately estimate power for their designs. The background engine performs each calculation quickly and accurately.
