Lattice Semiconductor's CPLD Families to Support new IEEE 1532 Standard for Programmable Devices-Lattice Scheduled to Release Industry's First Compliant Devices by Year-End-HILLSBORO, OR- SEPTEMBER 25, 2000- Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC), the world's largest supplier of in-system programmable (ISPTM) PLDs, today announced that its new generations of in-system programmable CPLDs will be compliant with the newly approved IEEE 1532 standard for programmable devices. Lattice further announced that it plans to ship the industry's first fully compliant ISP devices by the end of the year. Lattice Semiconductor introduced the first high-density in-system programmable CPLDs in 1992. Lattice's ISP products were the first to deliver the essential benefits of fast time-to-market, manufacturing flexibility and field upgradeability that programmable devices are now known for. As a result, Lattice's ISP products have become a de facto industry standard. "When Lattice invented in-system programmable devices over 10 years ago, we had a vision that it would become the pervasive, industry-wide standard that it is today," stated Steve Stark, Director, Product Marketing. "The IEEE 1532 silicon specification represents another step in the evolution of programmable technology, and establishes a common hardware description which will enable us to program devices from multiple vendors in a more optimized fashion. We're gratified that the industry, including silicon vendors, tool vendors and users, has come together to deliver this enhanced programming standard." Lattice has been a key contributor to the IEEE 1532 (ISC) standardization effort since its inception in 1996. The new silicon standard, combined with compliant programming tools yet to be developed, will provide an efficient programming solution for a single programming chain composed of any vendor's IEEE 1532 compliant devices. The IEEE 1532 silicon standard has established a universal programming state machine that is embedded into the compliant components (CPLDs, FPGAs, ASICs, Memories, etc.). Programming is accomplished through the IEEE 1149.1 Boundary Scan Test Access Port (TAP). "Lattice introduced our ispVMTM programming solution in the fall of 1998, and more recently our ispVM Embedded solution, to provide multiple vendor programming support well in advance of industry-wide silicon standardization," continued Stark. "While the IEEE 1532 standard ultimately promises more optimized multi-vendor programming once silicon and software is generally available, Lattice continues to deliver innovative ISP solutions today."
