LatticeECP2 Has "Starring Role" in New Reference Design

Conexant Systems and Maxim Integrated Products recently announced a jointly developed reference design for PC-based video surveillance products with digital video recording (DVR) capabilities. The reference design features Lattice Semiconductor’s LatticeECP2 FPGAs, which are used to perform key video format conversions.

“Video surveillance is an important market for Lattice and we are happy to have worked with Conexant and Maxim on this reference design,” said Sean Riley, corporate vice president and general manager of High Density Solutions for Lattice. “The LatticeECP2 FPGA family provides high-value capabilities for video format conversion, as well as pre- and post-processing to bridge different digital codec and analog decoder devices. These capabilities, and the inherent flexibility of FPGAs, enable the rapid development of differentiated security and surveillance solutions.”

Commenting on the announcement, veteran journalist Loring Wirbel wrote in his FPGA Gurus blog, “Kudos to Conexant and Maxim for pulling together a fascinating surveillance reference design. But let’s not forget about the ECP2 – these days, it’s safe to say the FPGA almost always has a starring role.”
