Lattice Hits the 200 Million Mark in ispMACH 4000 CPLD Device Shipments

This month, Lattice announced it has shipped over 209 million ispMACH 4000 complex programmable logic devices (CPLD). Lattice CPLDs provide a variety of solutions for designers, from "glue" logic and general purpose I/O expansion to voltage-level translation and LED drivers.

Engineers have widely adopted the ispMACH 4000 as a programmable logic standard due to its balance of price, power and packaging options. CPLDs continue to be a popular alternative to discrete digital logic, given the flexible nature of in-system programmable logic and I/O buffers that support a variety of signal standards and voltage levels. Compared to FPGAs, CPLDs offer the advantage of smaller packaging, very low power and fast, predictable timing characteristics.

CPLDs are also being used more often in consumer electronics as designers take advantage of reprogrammable digital hardware. With packages as small as 4x4 mm, static power consumption down to 10uA and prices starting as low as $0.50, devices like the low-cost ispMACH 4000ZE CPLD family are an ideal solution for battery-powered or low standby power devices such as smartphones, portable GPS products and home appliances like digital set-top-boxes.
