MachXO: The All-in-One PLDLattice Ships 75 Million MachXO PLDs

Shipments Reflect Widespread Adoption of Low Cost, Low Power, Non-Volatile PLD Architecture for a Broad Range of Applications

Lattice has shipped more than 75 million MachXO PLDs. Widely adopted in a broad range of high volume, cost sensitive applications, designers worldwide are taking advantage of the MachXO PLD family’s innovative combination of ease-of-use, flexibility, system integration and price.

The MachXO PLD family's unique system integration benefits have continued to drive its widespread adoption in a broad range of low-density applications that require general purpose I/O expansion, interface bridging and power-up management functions. Offering designers an "All-in-One-PLD," the MachXO PLD family provides distributed and embedded memory, built-in PLLs, high performance LVDS I/O, remote field upgrade (TransFR technology) and a low power sleep mode, all in a single device.

Building upon the success of the MachXO PLD architecture, Lattice now offers the next generation MachXO2 PLD family for new designs. The MachXO2 PLD family delivers a 3X increase in logic density, a 10X increase in embedded memory and more than a 100X reduction in static power, all at significantly lower cost. In addition, MachXO2 PLDs include hardened implementations of commonly used functions such as User Flash Memory (UFM), I2C, SPI and timer/counter.

Reference Designs and Easy to Use Development Kits

In order to accelerate development time, 65 popular reference designs and the easy-to-use MachXO Mini Development Kit are available for prototyping cost sensitive low-density applications. Using the preloaded mini system-on-chip (mini SoC) design provided with the development kit, designers can test within minutes I2C, SPI and UART interfaces, in addition to the 8-bit LatticeMico8 microcontroller and low power sleep mode functionality. Users can rebuild these demonstration designs using the free downloadable reference design source codes in less than one hour. This provides designers with a known good starting point for their own design explorations.

Alternatively, the MachXO Control Development Kit enables designers of system control applications to rapidly prototype typical board control functions such as temperature and current monitoring, power supply sequencing, fault logging, reset distribution and fan control used in system control designs.
